The Ultimate Funeral…

DEAD in his favorite chair (reclined), remote (in hand) AND the football game is ON! Oh yeah, don't miss the new silky pjs, slippers and beer! And are those a pack of Newports in his ashtray??? Just when you thought you've seen everything .... and yes, this is a regular commercial funeral home. This is just wrong!

Winning 5 Super Bowls endears a population to a team that is difficult to understand unless you have experienced it. Pittsburgh revolves around the Steelers in a way that the love of the Gamecocks can hardly approach. A beat down steel town with a bad reputation manages to win 4 superbowls in 6 years when the country and the industry are in a state of malise. There are more black and gold flags, banners and shirts flying around town during the playoffs in Pittsburgh than you will ever see in Columbia for SEC football. A city shuts down for the games. Television ratings for Steelers games in Pittsburgh are the highest rated NFL city and approach Super Bowl levels nationwide. They get something like an 80 share - an unheard of number. A USC game on ABC in Columbia against Florida got a 35 share in Columbia. So it does not surprise me that a man wanted to go out the way he lived, remote in hand, with a Steelers game on. It is a love for a team that only a Pittsburgher can understand.
