Subject: Break In at Public Works
There was a break-in at the Public Works Facility early Monday morning between midnight and 2 AM. Apparently an individual came over the fence by the back of the employees parking lot and entered the facility at the Solid Waste Division's back door. During a routine walk thru the security guard ran upon this individual in the canteen area in. It is my understanding that this individual fled the scene and the Police Department was called in to do an investigation and a report. They tracked the individual to the back gate with dogs to where he crossed the fence.
Damage is as follows
2 drink machines had their locks drilled out and approximately $60 taken
2 other vending machines have damaged locks.
The vending machines are managed by an individual from the Commission of the Blind and belong to Pepsi and Coke companies. The managing individual from the Commission of the Blind has been notified and will be taking action on getting them re-secured.
The individual used a cordless Black in Decker drill at the beginning of the process. Upon this drill failing he jumped the fence in Solid Waste and retrieved a extension cord and drill to continue his robbery.
Please make sure you check your areas this morning and ensure that nothing has been tampered with and that nothing is missing. If you find anything, call the Police Department and let myself of Missy know so we can provide an update to the City Manager. It may also be wise to have our operators look closely at our fleet this morning and make sure that nothing has been tampered with.
